Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa performs the first kidney transplant (KT) surgery in Laguna as the first DOH-accredited KT facility in the province

LAGUNA – Following its celebration of the National Kidney Month during which it launched the hospital’s Kidney Transplant (KT) Program last July 26, 2023, Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa’s has successfully performed its first KT operation last September 16. This is also the first in the whole province of Laguna.

“For our patients in the community and nearby areas, this means they can have this intervention done in Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa, as it is nearer and relatively cheaper than when done in Manila-based hospitals. Being in Santa Rosa also means they are in a more conducive-to-healing environment,” said Atty. Nirmala Vanguardia, Chief Operating Officer of Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa. “As part of our ‘Bagong Bato, Bagong Buhay’ campaign, we want to give our patients a chance to have longer and happier lives.”

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) happens when the kidneys have been damaged over time and can no longer function as they should. Among the key risk factors for CKD are diabetes and high blood pressure. Unfortunately, CKD is an irreversible condition that can only worsen over time. The kidneys may stop working, and CKD may lead to other diseases.

“The best option for treating end-stage chronic kidney disease is a kidney transplant, now available in Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa,” said Dr. Gina Nazareth, Nephrologist and Healthway Medical Network’s (HMN) Medical Affairs. “This is a concrete manifestation of HMN’s ‘Care Beyond Cure’, our care philosophy, bringing top-notch quality healthcare closer to our patients and their caregivers,” she continued.

The Network’s First: Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa performs first Kidney Transplant operation, the first in Healthway Medical Network (HMN) and the entire province of Laguna

Part of HMN’s promise is to deliver ‘Care Beyond Cure’ anchored on the ‘Connected Care Circles’ (CCCs) - a unique approach to patient care which were thoughtfully designed to address key clinical areas, including Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease. The CCCs offer high value, coordinated and holistic care throughout the patient journey through a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers across a strong and cohesive network of outpatient clinics and hospitals.

“Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa is the only Department of Health-accredited kidney transplant facility in Laguna, and as part of our ‘Care Beyond Cure’ promise, we want those with end-stage chronic kidney disease to have the option to go to us,  get the best healthcare possible and get a chance to live a better quality of life,” said Jaime Ysmael, CEO of Healthway Medical Network.
