In response to the difficulty that both cancer patients and oncologists face as they seek treatment amidst the COVID-19 health crisis, AC Health has taken the initiative to repurpose Healthway Medical Greenbelt 5 into a cancer specific unit that will serve the needs of oncology patients.

The Department of Health (DOH) granted AC Health permission to run Healthway Medical Greenbelt 5, one of its out-patient multispecialty clinics, as a chemotherapy infusion center beginning April 17, 2020. This allows AC Health to help serve the needs of cancer patients seeking a safe and convenient alternative place of care, furthering its commitment to improving healthcare for all.

“The COVID-19 crisis has made it very difficult for both patients and oncologists alike to navigate their way around seeking cancer treatment under ideal conditions. At Healthway, we are committed to serve those whose care plan may have been disrupted and to ensure that quality cancer care is made accessible,” said Paolo Borromeo, President and CEO of AC Health.

While the Healthway Greenbelt 5 clinic is currently a Chemotherapy Infusion Center, the clinic continues to offer consultations and utmost care for non-COVID related cases or non-cancer patients. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cardiology, and other services will continue to be offered.

The clinic, which meets DOH regulatory and safety standards for providing healthcare to cancer patients, has an installation of premium infusion pumps and needed medical services, and a Class II-2A Biosafety Cabinet. An ambulance is also on standby, should an unlikely event of an adverse reaction occur.

Patients will be supervised by board certified medical oncologists, experienced oncology nurses, and trained oncology pharmacists to guarantee quality care for cancer patients at the clinic. The referring oncologist will remain as the patient’s primary doctor throughout the treatment process and can go through an accelerated accreditation process at Healthway to assist them in PhilHealth and HMO requirements and billing.

Patients are encouraged to schedule their clinic appointments ahead of time to ensure medications are available and chemotherapy orders are reviewed. A proper endorsement from their medical oncologists will be required prior to their visit. PPEs will also be provided to ensure the clinic remains a COVID-19-free space.

Healthway Medical Greenbelt 5 is open from Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and can accommodate up to 15 cancer patients for chemotherapy per day. The clinic may be reached at (+632) 7720-6109 or at www.healthway.com.ph to get more details or schedule an appointment.

In related initiatives, AC Health continues to provide extended frontline care by keeping FamilyDOC primary care clinics and other Healthway multi-specialty clinics open to support and decongest major hospitals in Metro Manila. AC Health has also donated over 25,000 N-95 masks and ₱12Mn worth of essential medicines and PPEs to the DOH, LGUs, hospitals, and NGOs.

Recently, the Ayala Group, led by AC Health, partnered with Qualimed, to convert Qualimed Sta. Rosa into a COVID-19 referral hospital. AC Health and Qualimed also joined other private sector groups in the Department of Health’s Task Force T3 to ramp up RT-PCR testing for COVID-19 in the country to at least 30,000 tests per day by May 30, 2020.
